Update from the College Board on AP exams - March 20, 2020

Here is the link to the update from the College Board about AP exams this year - https://apcentral.collegeboard.org/about-ap/news-changes/coronavirus-update

It appears that APUSH will only cover units 1-7. You will still complete the contextualization and thesis statements for Unit VIII, but obviously our focus after that will be on the first seven units.

I will have more info on what we will be doing soon.

Update on the College Board quizzes and turnitin.com deadlines

I have opened up the Unit VIII College Board quizzes (hopefully...but let me know if you cannot still access them). I don't have a closing date for them, so you will have time after we get back to finish them. I also have extended the deadline for the contextualization and thesis statements to April 10 tentatively. That also may change.

I will try to see if I can change the deadlines for the Edpuzzle videos.

I also will open up some other College Board quizzes and other activities, such as long essays. I have opened up the Unit VII quizzes for you to go back and look at again. These will not be graded, but are for your review, if you choose to utilize them. I am going to try to open more of these on the College Board site, but none of these are required for you to do.

Update from the College Board

Here is some information that College Board posted on their web site on Friday, March 13. Keep in mind that we do not know exactly how the closing of Leland will impact the rest of the year, so we cannot be certain which scenario that the College Board has listed will apply to us. We will need to wait and see how our situation develops, but at least we can see that there are some options that could be available to us. I am planning to put up another post soon on possible review activities that can may want to do. Also, I would not suggest contacting the College Board or the Leland Administration yet as we do not know the exact details of when we will resume classroom learning again. Thanks and stay healthy, Mr. Kerwin

The AP Exam administration remains as scheduled for schools that will be open on May 4–8 and 11–15, with late testing scheduled for May 20–22.

Testing Support

Current school and district plans indicate that many schools will remain in session and administer AP Exams in May. We understand that this situation is evolving daily, however. If a school is already closed or needs to close in March or April, AP makeup testing dates will be available. Which dates best serve a school will depend on how much instructional time is lost:
  • If a school is able to make up most of the lost instruction time, we recommend testing on the regularly scheduled exam dates.
  • If a school needs to make up some instructional time, they may update students’ exam orders to late testing scheduled for the third week of May. Selecting “school closing: election, national holiday, or natural disaster” ensures that the late-testing fee will not be applied.
  • Testing in the fourth week of May is possible, if needed, but must be requested through AP Services for Educators.
  • Schools closed for extended periods of time that need even later options (i.e., June retest dates) can contact AP Services for Educators beginning in April to make such arrangements.
If a school has lost instructional days for AP 2-D Art and Design, 3-D Art and Design, Computer Science Principles, Drawing, Research, or Seminar courses and would like to request extensions for portfolio submission deadlines, please contact AP Services for Educators beginning March 16.

Changes to Unit VIII Calendar

As a reminder to what I stated in class on Wednesday, March 11, the test for Unit VIII has been moved back one class day. The new test date is Friday, March 20.

The deadline for the contextualization and thesis statement submission also has been pushed back. That deadline has moved from March 16 to March 18.

However, the Edpuzzle video quizzes and the College Board quizzes deadline have NOT changed.

Modification to the Unit VIII Lecture Pack

Because we have lost some time this unit for course selection and SAT test, so instead of doing four contextualization and thesis statements, you will only need to do THREE.
