- The structured reading notes due date is pushed back one day. The notes for pp. 76-90, 103-111, 114-135 are now due by 9PM Friday (August 31)
- The structured notes will be on prompt 3: “Evaluate how intellectual and religious movements impacted the development of colonial North America from 1607 to 1776” as well as the Unit II key concepts.
- You MAY have time Friday in class to work on these.
- The abbreviated essay outline on the slavery prompt is also due by 9PM on Friday (August 31)
- Because we have not had time yet to review the essay rubric, there will be NO essay on the Unit II test, just the stimulus-based multiple-choice questions

More Info on the AP Exam Fee Reduction Initiative
Below is an email from the school administration about the way to get the reduced price for AP exams. Note that the deadline is Sept. 19, 2018.
AP Exam Fee Reduction Initiative

application, the cost of any Advanced Placement (AP) exam will be
reduced to $5, again regardless of income. To be eligible for this
program, the application must be submitted by Wednesday, September 19, 2018. The application can be completed online at https://nutrition.sjusd.org. Thursday, August 16, 2018
What you need to do for APUSH for Monday, August 20
All you need to do is to do the second set of readings - pp. 25-37, 40-72.
On Monday we will go over how to do the Structured Reading Notes and you can begin work on them for this reading. We have about half the class on Tuesday to continue working on them (using the Chromebooks) and then you will submit them to turnitin.com by 9pm Tuesday evening. The Structured Reading Notes are four statements, each being three to five sentences (your entire submission will be between twelve to twenty sentences of written work).
For the first set of readings (pp. 2-35), you just need to have read that. There is no other work to do with these readings that you need to do.
Have a great weekend, Mr. Kerwin

Application for Free and Reduced-Priced Meals
Here is the link for the application to the Free and Reduced-Priced Meals program.
It is my understanding that even if you do not qualify for free or
reduced-priced meals, just by applying you will be able to have your AP
exam fees waived (so you would pay $5 instead of $95). I am not sure how
long you are able to fill out the application, so do it as soon as
possible...just to be safe.

Information on switching to acclerated
If an AP student wishes to switch to
accelerated status, they must submit the course change form to Dr.
Heffernan. You must complete this within the first three days of the
semester OR before FRIDAY September 14, 2018. If you do not submit in
the first few days of school you will remain in AP status in the class
until the schedule change is implemented on 9/14/18. An accelerated
student may not switch to AP status.
A student switching to accelerated will remain in the class with the other students, but their transcript will show "Accelerated US history" not "AP US history." If you have questions on this, please stop by my classroom or visit with me before or after class.
